DuPont Performance Polymers Expands Solutions for Wire and Cable with Renewably Sourced and Halogen Free Materials

As part of the DuPont exhibit for 2010 International Wire and Trade Fair, DuPont Performance Polymers presents a number of speciality materials for the wire and cable industry, including DuPont™ Vamac® ethylene acrylic elastomers (AEM), DuPont™ Zytel® nylon resins, DuPont™ Crastin® PBT thermoplastic polyester resins, DuPont™ Hytrel® thermoplastic polyester elastomer resins and DuPont™ ETPV Performance thermoplastic vulcanizate.

In addition to the existing solutions for wire and cable, DuPont Performance Polymers expands its solutions with renewably sourced and halogen free resins. The stand will feature Zytel® renewably sourced nylon resinsHytrel® thermoplastic polyester elastomer renewably sourced resins, DuPont™ Vamac® ethylene acrylic elastomers (AEM) flame retardant,  halogen free, and a new grade of ETPV Performance thermoplastic vulcanizate flame retardant, halogen free. These resins show DuPont commitment to the industry trends and the need for truly sustainable options for 21st century.

This broad product portfolio can be tailored to meet a wide range of application needs, and is based on the company’s global manufacturing and supply strength. Most importantly, Performance Polymers products for the wire and cable industry from DuPont can help improve the performance and/or lower cost of the final product.

“Beyond those materials already supplied to the wire and cable industry, we are continuously developing new materials to meet new and more demanding requirements in terms of temperature and chemical resistance, coupled with good mechanical performance and high extrusion speeds while reducing our environmental footprint” comments Jean-Maurice Griffon, wire and cable global marketing manager at DuPont Performance Polymers. In addition to material supply, DuPont provides assistance for its customers in terms of material selection, process optimization and documentation related to specific end-use requirements.

DuPont Performance Polymer thermoplastics and elastomers are used in the development of finished products for either insulation and/or jacketing applications, as well as for straight or coiled cables with enhanced elastic memory recovery over a wide temperature range, which meet stringent requirements at an attractive final cost. End-use industries include automotive, transportation, robotics, appliance, shipyard, as well as oil and alternative energies.

The DuPont Performance Polymers business manufactures and sells Crastin® PBT and Rynite® PET thermoplastic polyester resins, Delrin® acetal resins, Hytrel® thermoplastic polyester elastomers, DuPont™ ETPV thermoplastic vulcanizates, Minlon® mineral reinforced nylon resins, Neoprene  polychloroprene, Thermx® PCT polycyclohexylene dimethyl terephthalate, Tynex® filaments, Vespel® parts and shapes, Zenite® LCP liquid crystal polymers, Kalrez® perfluoroelastomer parts, Vamac® ethylene acrylic elastomers (AEM), Viton® fluoroelastomers, Viton® FreeFlow™ processing aids, Zytel® nylon resins and Zytel® HTN high-performance polyamides. These products serve global markets in the aerospace, appliance, automotive, consumer, electrical, electronic, healthcare, industrial, sporting goods and many other diversified industries.
