The extended wear life and enhanced performance of the DuPont™ Vespel® SCP part family are delivering value and benefits to aerospace systems worldwide.  Vespel® SCP parts are sure to attract a great deal of attention at the upcoming Farnborough International Airshow in the U.K. July 19-25.

“Vespel® SCP parts provide improved wear resistance at elevated temperatures compared with traditional polyimides,” said Mark Forkapa, global aerospace marketing manager – DuPont™ Kalrez® and Vespel®. “That’s a key reason why they’re gaining more and more approvals for use in aircraft systems in wear applications, including bumpers, wear pads, bushings, seals and shrouds.  Aerospace OEMs are finding high value in Vespel® SCP parts which deliver longer life and improved performance as well as weight reduction.  Engineers’ confidence in these new materials has been demonstrated by their having been specified on numerous aircraft programs,” he added.

Vespel® SCP parts can deliver longer wear life because they provide enhanced wear resistance both at maximum operating temperatures and across the full temperature range of most aerospace duty cycles.
 
Seizing on their benefits, aerospace engineers are choosing Vespel® SCP parts over traditional non-metallics in many cases.  For example, in applications where non-metallic materials have never been widely used, engineers are relying on the high temperature capabilities and wear resistance of Vespel® SCP parts to replace metal, thus saving weight and contributing to operational cost reduction.  Vespel® SCP parts typically weigh 75 to 80 percent less than stainless steel and substantially less than aluminum or titanium components.
