Application Description
Ingenious push-button device for quick adjustment and locking of boat fenders at optimum height has four parts injection molded from Delrin® acetal resin: a two-piece white housing, a black push button and locking cam. Screws and springs are stainless steel.
Benefits Gained
Quick, reliable operation. Line threaded through the unit is locked between integral teeth in the interior of the housing and the cam. Actuation of the push button disengages the cam and allows raising or lowering of the fender. The Fendergrip indeed underscores the potential for innovative design with Delrin®.
Durability in the marine environment. The parts made from Delrin® do not rust, withstand rugged use and resist UV and chemical attack.
Good looks. Parts are molded with smooth, glossy surfaces.
Molding productivity. Consistent shrinkage of Delrin® solved problems of sticking encountered with a competitive acetal resin in molding trials.
Materials Selected and Why
The white outer case parts are molded from a UV-stabilized formulation of Delrin®. The black push button and cam are molded from a Delrin® that contains 25% glass fiber reinforcement. Each provides the combination of strength, toughness, low creep, low wear/friction, chemical resistance, UV stability, good surface appearance and precision molding characteristics required for the respective parts.
