Benefits Gained
Cost reduction was achieved by using DuPont engineering polymers because they allow part integration and design freedom versus diecast aluminium. Weight and noise reduction were also achieved.
Materials Selected and Why
Zytel®, used for the gear housing and the motor housing, was chosen for its excellent combination of toughness and stiffness. Delrin®, used for the gear, was chosen for its excellent dimensional stability, low wear and low friction properties.
