Benefits Gained
DuPont engineering polymers help to save weight and have excellent design versatility. In this model, the outer frame (background) is still in aluminium but will shortly be converted to nylon. The design of the inner frame (foreground) enables the height of the third wheel from the front to be adjusted.
This part also holds the fixation elements of the inline skate which requires good stiffness, but with enough flexibility to withstand the stresses between the shoe and the frame.
Materials Selected and Why
Zytel® for the frame and Delrin® for the lever were chosen for their excellent mouldability, good impact resistance and stiffness.
