DuPont Engineering polymers helped the designer to develop an easy-to-open, easy-to-close range of bindings, where almost all of the structural components are engineering polymers.
Materials Selected and Why
Delrin®, used for the buckle of the front strap and the ankle strap, was chosen because it has a low-friction surface, with natural lubricity that helps fast, smooth opening of the strap, but it also has excellent resistance to low temperature.
Hytrel® is the ideal component for the straps and the back spoiler which need low-temperature flexibility, flex-resistance and tensile strength.
Zytel® was chosen because it offers a high degree of mechanical strength combined with a balance of stiffness and toughness. It is used for the base, the disc that allows the base to be set at different angles as well as for the two side frames and the top frame.
