Working together, this application demonstrates the combination of design flexibility and functionality. The same patented removable plate system enables quick and easy change from in-line rollers to iceskates. When not 'skating' the shoe, can be used in a perfectly normal manner for walking.
Materials Selected and Why
Zytel® ST used for the in-line and iceskate plate support was chosen for its very good elongation that can bear high mechanical and dynamic loads. It also has an excellent balance of stiffness and toughness. Zytel® ST also adheres very well to the stainless steel blade and its excellent impact and abrasion resistance withstands all the knocks and scrapes to which iceskates are subjected.
Delrin® is used for the interfacing part that is positioned between the support structure and the shoe because it has excellent rigidity. Its toughness ensures a reliable attaching and detaching of the blade/rollers support from the shoe.
