Grape, pome fruit, blueberry and sweet corn growers all benefit from label expansion of broad-spectrum insecticide.
Mississauga, Ontario – May 16, 2011 – DuPont™ Assail® insecticide has received a label expansion that adds more crops and insects to the label. These additions will allow more growers to benefit from the broad-spectrum control and flexible application rates offered by Assail®.
“Grape, pome fruit, blueberry and sweet corn growers will see significant benefits from Assail®,” says Ray Janssen, specialties product manager at DuPont. “Assail® gives growers extended residual control because it does not break down in sunlight. This broad-spectrum control helps preserve quality and improve yields. And it is a reduced risk product with an excellent fit in an integrated pest management (IPM) system.”
Pests that have been added to crops already on the Assail® label include:
Blueberry growers have trusted Assail® for control of blueberry maggot and aphids. It is now registered for control of blueberry flea beetle, blueberry spanworm (suppression), blueberry thrips, cherry fruitworm, cranberry fruitworm, and strawberry rootworm (adults).
Grape growers have counted on Assail® to control leafhoppers. Now they can also use this broad-spectrum insecticide to control grape berry moth, grape phylloxera, and Japanese beetle.
Pome fruit growers have been using Assail® to control aphids, leafhopper, oriental fruit moth (OFM) and other insects. Apple maggot, European apple sawfly, green fruitworm, mullein bug, and plum curculio have been added to the pome fruit portion of the label.
Crops that have been added to the label include:
Sweet corn growers can use Assail® to control aphids.
Seed alfalfa growers can now use the broad-spectrum insecticide to control tarnished plant bug and alfalfa plant bug.
In addition to the crops recently added to the label, Assail® controls pests in blueberries, bushberries, cole crops, field peppers, field tomatoes, grapes, ground cherries, leafy brassica greens, leafy vegetables, pome fruits, potatotes, seed alfalfa, stone fruits, strawberries, sweet corn and tobacco.
