Triton® C now registered for use on all feed and malt barley varieties.
Mississauga, Ontario – March 21, 2011 – DuPont™ Triton® C herbicide is now registered for all barley varieties, giving growers wide-spectrum broadleaf weed control to help them produce high-quality feed barley or earn premiums for higher-value malt barley.
“Growers can be confident in their weed control with Triton® C,” says Jon Gough, cereals product manager for DuPont. “The weed control growers get from Triton® C will help them achieve the crop quality demanded by the malt barley processing industry.”
Triton® C controls a unique spectrum of weeds, including 24 different broadleaf weeds. It’s well known among growers for control of cleavers as well as growing threats such as stork’s-bill, sow-thistle, narrow-leaved hawk’s-beard and round-leaved mallow. It can be used with a number of different grass partners without compromising wild oat control.
There are many different end uses for malt barley, including the production of beer and other distilled beverages. End-use customers for malt barley have very strict parameters that dictate which herbicide products are allowed on the crop, says Gough. Triton® C meets the guidelines laid out by the Pesticide Management Regulatory Agency, making it an effective product for malt barley growers.
Triton® C is strong on cleavers (including Group 2-resistant biotypes) because it attacks the weed with two herbicide groups (Group 2 and Group 4). “Both herbicide groups significantly contribute to the control of cleavers, making Triton® C an effective tool to manage resistance,” says Gough.
