DuPont™ Tyvek®
The original selective barrier technology.

Since the initial discovery in 1955 that led to Tyvek®, DuPont has been a recognized global leader in selective barrier technology. Tyvek® is the DuPont brand name for spunbonded olefin. Tyvek® is formed by a fully integrated process using continuous and very fine fibers of 100 percent high-density polyethylene that are randomly distributed and nondirectional. These fibers are first flash spun, then laid as a web on a moving bed before being bonded together by heat and pressure - without the use of binders, sizers or fillers. By varying both the lay-down speed and the bonding conditions, DuPont technicians can engineer the flashspun sheet to meet market needs, such as soft- and hard-structure Tyvek®. Lightweight and durable, DuPont™ Tyvek® has introduced new dimensions of protection, security and safety in a wide variety of industries, including protective apparel, construction, envelopes, medical and industrial packaging, and graphics.

DuPont™ Tyvek® offers the best characteristics of paper, film, and fabric in one material.

The protective qualities of DuPont™ Tyvek® help ensure peak performance in a variety of industries ranging from protective apparel, construction and envelopes to medical packaging, covers and graphics. Major applications include:

DuPont™ Sontara®

DuPont™ Sontara® is an exceptionally strong, nonwoven textile sheet fabric created by DuPont hydroentangling technology, known as spunlacing. The Sontara® manufacturing process removes environmental impurities, which can contaminate and damage surfaces, and the high-energy jet-action used during the process creates an exceptionally low-linting material.

Because Sontara® fabric is continually washed during the manufacturing process, Sontara® fabric is low-linting, exceptionally clean, and has the built-in strength of spunlace technology, making it extra-durable. In fact, Sontara® products made with Sontara® fabric can handle the toughest cleaning challenges because they are so strong and resistant to wear and tear that they maintain exceptional strength, even when wet. They won’t fall apart when used with MEK1 , isopropyl alcohol, solvents and other cleaning agents, making them a very cost-effective cleaning choice.

Sontara® products are capable of cleaning virtually anything, which makes them some of the most versatile wiping products on the market today, with uses and applications in many industries around the world, including:

  • Automotive Refinishing
  • Electronics
  • Hospitality, Food Processing/Preparation, and Food Service
  • Life Sciences and Pharmaceutical
  • Manufacturing
  • Printing
  • Transportation and Aerospace

DuPont™ TYPAR®

Typar® is composed of thermally bonded continuous polypropylene filaments. The fibre extrusion process produces thousands of superfine continuous filaments, which pass through a DuPont patented "pre-stretch" stage. The superfine tough filaments are directionally oriented producing a fibre web sheet that is then thermally and mechanically bonded.

By varying polymer and process conditions a range of high strength Typar® sheet structures with differing denier and physical properties can be produced. DuPont’s patented production technique is one of the main reasons for the unique properties of Typar® compared to other Geotextiles.

Applications of DuPont™ TYPAR®

TYPAR® geo textile is used to perform functions like separation, stabilisation, filtration, drainage and protection. Typar® geo textile has diverse applications few of them being:

• Roads
• Airport runways, taxiways and motorways
• Car parks and storage yards
• Railway, new tracks and tracks renewal
• Trench Drains
• Vertical drains
• Agricultural and pipe drains
• Breakwater and jetties on soft soil sea bed
• Land reclamation with hydraulic fill
• Sports Fields
