Active Ingredient in DuPont™ Acelepryn™ Recognized as Innovative Technology by R&D Magazine
WILMINGTON, Del., Jan. 27, 2009 – The active ingredient in DuPont™ Acelepryn™ insecticide was recently recognized by R&D Magazine as one of the most innovative ideas of 2008. Acelepryn™ is a grub control product that boasts many industry firsts, including a unique class of chemistry and mode of action, a reduced-risk classification from the EPA and the lowest application rate ever utilized for grub control.

“We’re honored to be part of R&D Magazine’s efforts to showcase innovation in the scientific community with its R&D 100 Award,” said Mark Coffelt, global development manager -- DuPont Professional Products. “This recognition is another indication of our commitment to putting breakthrough technology into the hands of today’s pest and green professionals.”

With just one early application of Acelepryn™, golf and turf professionals can control all 10 key turf-damaging white grub species plus surface-feeding insects such as cutworms, webworms, annual bluegrass weevils and billbugs. Acelepryn™ is designed to control these damaging pests on a wide range of sites, including golf courses and commercial and residential turf sites as well as landscape ornamentals — including trees, shrubs, flowers, foliage plants and groundcovers. Professionals who apply Acelepryn™ early in the season will have the opportunity to introduce less active ingredient in the environment, and save time and money by eliminating a later treatment of another insecticide that controls surface feeders.

The launch of Acelepryn™ continues DuPont’s ongoing commitment to develop products that are highly efficacious and gentle on the environment.  Using a unique class of chemistry with a novel mode of action, and active ingredient that has been classified as EPA Reduced Risk for turf applications, Acelepryn™ has an excellent environmental profile. Acelepryn™ has a low impact on non-target organisms such as beneficial arthropods as well as bees, birds, fish and mammals.  It also has the lowest water solubility of any white grub control product.

Acelepryn™ has been quickly adopted in the Midwest and Northeast, and was recently registered for use in California after an accelerated review and approval process permitted in California by law. The California Department of Pesticide Registrations (CDPR) initiated its review of Acelepryn™ prior to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) registration of the product.  The CDPR review and approval was aided by this new product’s favorable toxicological profile.
