DuPont Professional Products Introduces Provaunt® — Advanced Chemistry for Turf and Landscape Ornamental Insect Control
New Chemistry is Combined with New Mode of Action for Proven Control of Multiple Insect Species Across Geographies
WILMINGTON, Del., February 16, 2007 – DuPont Professional Products today introduced DuPont™ Provaunt® insecticide, an insect control solution that provides turf managers and landscape professionals with an entirely new chemistry and mode of action for quickly controlling a wide variety of caterpillars and other key pests. Featuring a new active ingredient, new physiological reaction, low application rates and an active ingredient classified as reduced-risk by the EPA, Provaunt® will provide effective control of many insect pests including multiple caterpillars, mole crickets, annual bluegrass weevil (ABW) larvae (curative application), European crane fly larvae, potato leafhopper, grasshoppers and European pine sawfly.
Provaunt® has been evaluated extensively by leading turfgrass and landscape ornamental entomologists, and independent trials on multiple pests in several geographies resulted in effective control up to 100 percent using low application rates.
Steve McDonald, assistant golf course superintendent at the Philadelphia Country Club, is one of several customers who have already used Provaunt®. According to McDonald, “We were seeing a lot of damage from black cutworms to bentgrass tees. Provaunt® controlled the damage faster than other products we have used in the past. Also, its new chemistry and mode of action are huge assets for resistance management programs. We plan to use Provaunt® going forward.”
Indoxacarb, the active ingredient in Provaunt®, is a member of a completely new class of chemistry, the oxadiazines. Since most turf and landscape ornamental insects have never been exposed to this class of chemistry, Provaunt® is extremely effective.
“Indoxacarb has a unique mode of action,” explained Dr. Chuck Silcox, global product development, DuPont Professional Products. “After an insect comes in contact with indoxacarb, the insect’s enzymes change the molecular structure and attributes of the compound, converting it into MetaActive™ compound. After conversion, MetaActive™ is the more powerful form.” Feeding damage stops quickly, within minutes to a few hours, after application. At the same time, Provaunt® does not negatively impact beneficial insects and mites when used in accordance with the label.
In addition to its performance, Provaunt® has an excellent environmental and toxicological profile. Indoxacarb is classified as a reduced-risk active ingredient by the EPA and offers the industry much needed alternative chemistry. It has no required buffer zone around water.
