DuPont™ Arilon™ Insecticide Receives EPA Registration
New Residual Spray Controls Diverse Range of Pests on Interior and Exterior Surfaces
Features Industry’s First Biodegradable and Compostable Packaging
WILMINGTON, Del., July 30, 2009 – DuPont Professional Products today announced that DuPont™ Arilon™ insecticide has been registered by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and state approvals are in progress. Expected to be widely adopted as a staple product by pest management professionals (PMPs), Arilon™ offers high-performance insect control, versatility of application uses and an improved environmental profile. DuPont is packaging the Arilon™ water dispersible granules in biodegradable and compostable Terrene™ packs. These packets contain a premeasured amount of product to reduce handling labor and exposure, minimize waste and eliminate the need to triple-rinse prior to disposal.
“We’re excited to give our customers a proven, all-purpose product that handles such a broad range of pests and application situations,” said Mike McDermott, global business leader -- DuPont Professional Products. “Together with its innovative chemistry and packaging, we are once again raising the bar in delivering high-performing, environmentally responsible pest control products.”
Research shows that Arilon™ provides excellent control of key ants such as Argentine, Odorous House and Pharaoh, plus cockroaches and nuisance insect pests like crickets. Also, the active ingredient in Arilon™ has shown “exponential control.” in prior studies. This means, horizontal exchange of the active ingredient in social insects, like cockroaches, can occur reaching beyond the insect pests that initially came in contact with the treatment. PMP’s now can use one product to control a diverse range of insect pests rather than having to reach for different products for a given situation – saving time, effort and cost.
“Arilon™ has worked very well on some of our more challenging insect pests in Florida and Atlanta,” said Richard Spencer, Vice President of Technical Services & Quality Control at Arrow Exterminators. “Arilon™ has delivered longer residual control than other products we’ve used, and we’ve had no sightings of residue on a variety of surfaces including concrete, brick, stone and mulch. The environmental profile of Arilon™ is also important to us,” added Spencer. “We only use products that successfully control the target pest and are low risk to people, pets and the environment. Arilon™ delivers on both fronts.”
Arilon™ combines performance with versatility in one, easy-to-use formulation. Whether insect pest invasions require interior or exterior treatments, residential or commercial usage, or even crack and crevice applications in food handling establishments, Arilon™ is non-repellent chemistry that offers exceptional insect pest control across all of these use patterns. The active ingredient in Arilon™ has been proven effective, both short term and long, on many common surfaces including concrete, stainless steel, weathered wood, painted surfaces, ceramic tile, brick and vinyl siding. While similar competing products may break down faster in sunlight and other environmental conditions or lose performance on porous surfaces, Arilon™ applied to a multitude of outdoor surfaces is expected to have excellent residual control over extended periods of time.
The chemistry of Arilon™ and its novel packaging make it an environmentally smart choice for many PMPs. Indoxacarb, the active ingredient in Arilon™, was classified as a Reduced Risk compound by the U.S. EPA for insect pest control on approved crops and for non-crop use to control imported fire ants. The active ingredient is delivered to insect pests through ingestion or absorption where it then converts to a MetaActive™ form using the insect’s own enzymes, effectively differentiating between target insect pests and non-target organisms, like mammals. In addition, DuPont is offering Arilon™ in biodegradable and compostable Terrene™ packs to reduce container disposal waste for PMPs and the environment.
