DuPont™ StatMedia™ soluble packets are pre-weighed unit-dose packets of enrichment media in a water-soluble film. Simply drop the entire packet into a sterile vessel containing pre-warmed sterile water and mix as usual. The film dissolves within seconds and media shortly thereafter.

Most DuPont™ StatMedia™ soluble packets are gamma-irradiated*. All provide the same performance as bulk powder with the added convenience of a pre-weighed delivery system that offers unique advantages:

• Eliminates dust exposure and ergonomic issues associated with handling bulk media powder
• Reduces media preparation costs
• Minimizes the need for autoclaving
• Minimizes waste from expired batches of rehydrated media
• Reduces hands-on and total media prep time, creating additional capacity in the lab

*The 225g packet of BAX® System media for E. coli O157:H7 is the only size that is not gamma-irradiated.

Packets are wrapped in a water-soluble film made from a polyvinyl alcohol resin. The film does not interfere with bacterial growth, lysis or PCR sensitivity. In warm water, the film dissolves within seconds. The media itself dissolves in about the same time as bulk media (about 5 min for a 1L packet with gentle agitation, or 15 to 30 sec with homogenization). Because the packets are gamma-irradiated*, prepared broth does not require autoclaving when used within 3-4 hours. For longer storage, broth can be autoclaved and then refrigerated for up to two weeks.

The soluble packets are provided in a variety of convenient weights, based on common media volumes used in the food testing industry. All packets are sized to fit through the one- or two-inch opening of common media preparation vessels.

Depending on the media type and final volume, up to 25 packets are packaged in resealable foil pouches labeled with instructions for rehydrating the media. Most pouches are gamma-irradiated to eliminate the need for autoclaving when the broth is used within 4 hours. The lone exception is the 225 g packet of BAX® System Media for E. coli O157:H7 MP, which accommodates customers who prepare media broth in large volumes and wish to retain the autoclaving step.

Pouches are sold in cartons with a total volume of about 2.5 kg. The minimum order is one carton.
