We view REACH as part of a growing global regulatory trend for the sustainable development, production and use of chemicals. DuPont is relying on our long tradition of regulatory compliance excellence and leadership in product stewardship to set the stage for our approach to REACH.
DuPont Objectives
By 01 December 2008, DuPont has submitted pre-registration files for the substances requiring registration that are manufactured by DuPont in the European Union or imported by DuPont into the European Union. We have received confirmation from the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) that all our substance pre-registrations have been accepted. The objective is the final registration of these substances.
Ultimately, the decision as to whether to register specific substances or not will depend on a number of factors beyond DuPont’s control and/or on Safety, Health and Environment or business-related considerations.
We are committed to meeting the requirements of REACH in full cooperation with our customers and suppliers.
What can be expected from DuPont
The implementation of REACH may force other manufacturers / importers, as DuPont suppliers, to take decisions about the continued support of substances for sales or import into the EU market. Their decisions to withdraw substances or products could impact DuPont. In such cases, DuPont will work in close collaboration with its customers, and wherever reasonably possible, offer them an acceptable alternative.
