Designed to Fight Against Revenue Loss in HVACR Industry by Curtailing Counterfeit Refrigerants and Illegal Imports
DuPont Refrigerants today announced a critical initiative to curb the sale of counterfeit DuPont refrigerants and to discourage illegal imports.
“Counterfeit and illegal import products cost the HVACR industry millions of dollars in revenue per year,” said Diane Picho, global business manager – DuPont Refrigerants. “This becomes more important as R-22 service demand is expected to exceed supply by 27.5 million pounds each year through 2014.”
“The DuPont Brand Assurance Program will be one of our key initiatives this year,” Picho added. “Through this program, DuPont will continue its efforts to fight counterfeit refrigerant usage and illegal import activity of DuPont refrigerant products, starting with DuPont™ Freon® R-22. We’re taking a leadership position by implementing measures to curtail this activity, and we hope other manufacturers will follow our lead,”
The Brand Assurance Program uses a proprietary DuPont technology which involves the patented DuPont™ Izon® 3D holographic label. The Izon® label is placed on the Dispos-a-can® or DAC to enable immediate verification. The use of the Izon® label on DuPont R-22 DACs began in late fourth quarter 2010.
