DuPont™ Opteon™ refrigerants

DuPont has applied its leadership in science and technology to introduce its newest innovation in more environmentally sustainable refrigerants: The Opteon™ family of lower global warming potential (GWP) refrigerants.

DuPont™ Opteon™ refrigerants offer the optimal balance of performance, environmental sustainability, safety and cost for air conditioning and refrigeration applications.

DuPont™ Opteon™ refrigerants under development

Opteon™ yf (HFO-1234yf)

  • Opteon™ yf (HFO-1234yf) was developed to meet the European Union Mobile Air Conditioning (MAC) Directive requirements for 2011 as a replacement for HFC-134a.

  • Opteon™ yf has a GWP of 4, which is 99% lower than HFC-134a.

  • Opteon™ yf has undergone extensive safety and performance testing for use in mobile air conditioning by major automotive OEMs in Europe, Japan, Korea, and the United States.

  • Opteon™ yf has been globally accepted for use in mobile air conditioning by leading automotive OEMs.

  • Opteon™ yf is commercially available on a limited basis for mobile air conditioning OEMs.

Opteon™ XP10

  • Opteon™ XP10, currently undergoing laboratory and field testing, is a lower GWP option for many air conditioning and refrigeration applications, including medium temperature refrigeration and commercial air conditioning and water chillers.

  • Opteon™ XP 10 is the lowest GWP (near 600), non-flammable refrigerant available based on the new HFO-1234yf technology.

  • Opteon™ XP10 is a very close match in properties and performance to HFC-134a in performance and is therefore highly compatible with current HFC-134a system technology, enabling efficient transition in new and existing equipment.

  • Compressor and system testing, including both laboratory and field tests, are underway in close collaboration with several leading equipment manufacturers and food retailers.

  • Commercial availability timing will be announced at a future date.
