On what surfaces is it safe to use DuPont™ Rely+On™ Virkon®?

Is DuPont™ Rely+On™ Virkon® corrosive?
The in-use solution is generally not corrosive. However, special care should be taken when using on soft metals like copper, brass, and carbon steel as some corrosion may occur. Also, use caution where two different metals are in contact with each other as this can result in some galvanic corrosion. If any doubt exists, always test on material before broadly applying. The powder is corrosive and contact with metals or skin should be avoided.
What are the active ingredients in DuPont™ Rely+On™ Virkon®?
The active ingredients are Potassium Monopersulfate (Oxone®) and Sodium Chloride (NaCl)
Does DuPont™ Rely+On™ Virkon® have any odour?

Incidental contact with 1% DuPont™ Rely+On™ Virkon®, being used as directed, will generally not damage most types of turn-out gear.
DuPont™ Rely+On™ Virkon® is not approved for use as a disinfectant on porous turn-out gear materials.
Results of "incidental contact" testing on various gear may be made available upon request.

Yes, it can be used as a hard surface disinfectant on countertops or other surfaces that might contact food. When it is used on these "food contact" surfaces, a potable water rinse is required after disinfection
Is DuPont™ Rely+On™ Virkon® classified as non-hazardous by the DOT?
Yes, DuPont™ Rely+On™ Virkon® is not regulated in transportation by DOT/IMO/IATA.
What quality of water should DuPont™ Rely+On™ Virkon® solution be made with?
Tap water is normally sufficient for dilution of the DuPont™ Rely+On™ Virkon® powder or tablets. Use of extremely contaminated water should be avoided.
Should the contents in contaminated facilities, such as carpeting, drywall etc. be disinfected before they are removed for disposal?
No, it is difficult to assure a good disinfection process on highly soiled items and porous items like carpet or drywall. It is recommended the areas be cleared of debris and damaged goods by trained individuals wearing proper personal protective equipment. Once the area is clear and free of debris and gross contamination, the reaming hard non-porous surfaces can be cleaned and disinfected with DuPont™ Rely+On™ Virkon® solution.
