DuPont and BP are developing biobutanol, a new advanced biofuel that could be 100% renewably sourced from agriculture feedstocks such as corn, wheat, sugar cane and other agricultural feedstocks. Since 2003, the advanced biotechnology capabilities of DuPont, along with the extensive fuels technology, market knowledge and joint process engineering expertise of BP, have combined to develop biofuels with unique properties that can overcome the limitations of current biofuels. Using existing processing technology, the first commercial volumes of biobutanol will be introduced in Europe in 2007. A second phase, using an improved conversion technology, will expand commercial volumes of biobutanol after 2010.
