DuPont™ SentryGlas® Expressions™ used for aesthetic effects
One of Australia’s leading architectural firms, The Buchan Group, has usedDuPont™ SentryGlas® Expressions™ decorative laminated technology for facade and roof glazing totaling over 1,000 m2 (10,764 sq ft) in an aesthetically striking extension to developer Pacific Shopping Centre’s Epping Plaza retail mall in Melbourne. The decorative glass design in the roof features Australia’s nativeeucalypt tree leaves; the same motif is digitally-enhanced in the lightly curved entryfaçades to create a layered, graphic effect. The Buchan Group worked with façade specialist Clip Fit and laminator Digiglass on this project.

Architect Lourey continued: "Epping Plaza is located on the urban fringe of Melbourne and the gum tree (or eucalypt) graphic evokes the original bush land that once characterized the area. Graphic details to the decorative roof glazing filter the light and create dappled leaf patterns at ground level inside the shopping plaza. The overlapping shapes interact with each other, echoing the motif in a constantlychanging play of light and shade. The façade entry graphic similarly uses the leaf motif, increasing in density from top to bottom."
Michael Pollock a director of façade installer Clip Fit said: "The two sections of the spider-fitted façade, totaling 400 m2 (4,306 sq ft) and the 600 m2 (6,458 sq ft), barrel-vaulted roof of the 16 m- (52.5 ft-) high Epping Plaza, all incorporating DuPont’s decorative laminated glass, look really impressive. We used panes of 1,500 mm x 1,200 mm (59 in x 47 in) on the façade and 1,800 mm x 1,200 mm (70.87 ft x 47 in.) on the roof. The construction of the glass is 6 mm (0.24 in.) clear toughened glass + 1.52 mm (0.06 in.) SentryGlas® Expressions™ interlayer + 6 mm (0.24 in.) toughened glass."
