Northlake Mall In Charlotte, North Carolina

Architects JPRA Architects of Farmington Hills, Michigan (USA) wanted to create “a simple, clear, contemporary look” for the Northlake Mall in Charlotte, North Carolina (USA) completed in autumn 2005. They achieved this through the extensive use of custom-designed decorative laminated glass incorporating DuPont™ SentryGlas® Expressions™ technology. The laminator for the project was Dlubak Corporation of Blairsville, Pennsylvania (USA).

"We were very impressed with the high resolution graphics and the outstanding print quality within the laminated glass using SentryGlas® Expressions™." Matthew Siegrist JPRA Environmental Graphic Designer
JPRA Environmental Graphic Designer Matthew Siegrist noted that laminated glass with SentryGlas® Expressions™ is used for Northlake Mall’s entrance canopies in the external façade, in the mall’s feature elevator glass enclosure, in sections of it’s second-level laminated glass railing or balustrade and for extensive murals in the mall’s large food court.

Siegrist said: “In balustrades for a crosswalk going over the second level of the mall, we departed from the geometric pattern we had used at the entry and chose to depict North Carolina State symbols including birds, squirrels, trees and flowers within the translucent laminated glass in seven large balustrade panels, adding a local touch that shoppers can identify with."

“In general we were very impressed with the high resolution graphics and the outstanding print quality within the laminated glass using SentryGlas® Expressions™. The technology proved versatile and easy to use. We were so pleased that I am quite sure we’ll be using SentryGlas® Expressions™ technology in other shopping malls in the future; I have a sample on my desk for a mall we are currently working on in Palm Beach, Florida.”
