Memorial Hospital of South Bend, Ind., today announced that they would pioneer a new DuPont Safety Resources (DSR) program being developed for the healthcare industry. Beginning in June, safety experts from DuPont Safety Resources will partner with staff and physicians at Memorial to identify opportunities for safety enhancements using the tried-and-true principles developed at DuPont over the past 200 years. Areas of focus will include: safety infrastructure and staffing, training, and related systems. The teams will also do extensive study of safety issues typically associated with the healthcare environment.
Safety has always been our core commitment and we see exciting applications of what weve learned for other industries, said Deborah Grubbe, DuPont corporate director for Safety and Health and manager of the project. Healthcare is a key industry where we can help our partners to save lives by applying our safety knowledge. We were looking for a hospital that was fully committed to quality and open to new solutions. Memorial has a reputation for being very progressive, and the team at Memorial was by far the most enthusiastically committed and best prepared to help us apply our safety management system to hospital operations. We are proud to have been selected and to be working with a team of experts from one of the most safety-conscious organizations in the world, said Memorial President and CEO Phil Newbold.
We anticipate this relationship will offer improvements for our staff and local patients and will ultimately help to improve hospital safety for all hospitals as we share what our two organizations learn.
Memorial staff will initially spend time learning about DuPont best practices in safety, and their application to the hospital environment. The new programs will be added to Memorials existing workplace and patient safety efforts and progress will be documented. The results of the partnership will help determine whether DuPont Safety Resources will provide an extensive Healthcare Safety business offering in the future.
