DuPont Hosts Safety Forum for Australian Business Leaders

DuPont recently hosted the inaugural DuPont Safety Leaders Forum in Sydney, Australia. Attended by more than 150 delegates from the Australian business community, the forum featured documented case studies from clients who have leveraged innovations in safety culture to achieve business excellence, including:

  • A 50 percent reduction in lost days and cost savings projected in the hundreds of millions of dollars at Qantas Airways Limited
  • A 63 percent reduction in workers’ compensation costs at Mitsubishi Motors Australia, Ltd.
  • A reduction of more than 97 percent in workplace injuries at BlueScope Steel

Dr. Jukka Takala, director of the SafeWork Program at the International Labour Organisation in Switzerland, outlined the global burden of workplace safety, noting that an estimated five percent of the world’s gross domestic product is lost each year due to workplace accidents and disease. "The key theme from the day was ‘good safety is good business’ and visible management commitment is required to succeed," said Laurence O’Dwyer, senior manager, DuPont Safety Resources, Australia. "It is great to see companies looking to DuPont for leadership and guidance in this area."
