Senior safety consultants host an interactive event at the NSC Congress & Expo

Do your employees talk about safety as general conversation in the workplace?  Do you know why it’s easier to talk about production, quality and morale than safety? These were just some of the questions that Doris Byrd, senior consultant – DuPont Safety Resources, asked participants at the 2007 NSC Congress & Expo where DuPont unveiled the latest enhancements to its safety training portfolio.

The interactive demonstration, hosted by DuPont safety experts and trainers, gave participants the chance to experience how the company delivers their safety expertise through workshops, seminars, training programs and online data management.

Anton Bohn, senior consultant – DuPont Safety Resources, joined Byrd to engage participants in abbreviated versions of safety workshops.  Each addressed issues fundamental to building a safety culture, including driving management commitment and enabling employees to talk to each other openly about safety.

Bohn focused on the Operations Manager workshop, which trains managers to lead a safety culture through their own behavior.  “As a manager, you get the level of safety performance that you demonstrate you want,” said Bohn.  “Workshops like the Operations Manager seminar provide a chance to get real-life answers from long-term DuPont managers who have experience demonstrating true management commitment to safety.”

Byrd highlighted the STOP™ Implementation Assistance Workshop and the enhanced STOP™ For Each Other, a training program designed to teach employees how to talk to each other about safety.  DuPont believes organizations that place a high value on safety aim to create an environment where people talk about safety all the time.  STOP™ For Each Other uses a variety of media, including electronic workbooks, to help employees embrace the concept of relying on each other to work safely.  STOP™ stands for Safety Training Observation Program.

Rounding out the portfolio, the company introduced participants to STOP DataPro™, a web-based application that enables safety managers to derive actionable knowledge from their safety data.  STOP DataPro™ is the first in DuPont’s Data Management System offerings.

“At DuPont, we believe that all injuries can be prevented,” said Andy Perrella, Global Product Manager. “Beyond helping create a safer workplace and work force, proper engagement of the DuPont portfolio of safety offerings can lead to improved employee morale, increased worker retention and a positive impact on the bottom line.”
