Pedersen's Key Partner - Ted Malinowski

Charles Pedersen's discovery of the crown ethers was accomplished working with the help of a single technician, Ted Malinowski. Now retired from DuPont and living in Wilmington, Del., Malinowski was one of the first technicians at DuPont to hold the title of research technologist.

Malinowski remembers Pedersen as "very kind, a real gentleman." He says that Pedersen also was "a very dedicated scientist. He worked constantly, stopping only for half and hour at lunch to rest."

For his part, Pedersen holds Malinowski in equally high regard. " Teddy was the best," Pedersen says. "He was a thinking technologist who understood the work and made real contributions to its progress. He was especially good with his hands and could do things with instrumentation that I couldn't. If it hadn't been for Ted, it would have taken me a lot longer to discover what I did."
