Community Outreach

DuPont is committed to improving the quality of life and enhancing the vitality of the communities in which it operates throughout the world. Through financial contributions and the volunteer efforts of its employees, DuPont supports programs and organizations that address social progress, economic success and environmental excellence - all vital components of community sustainability.

• Social Progress – Increasing access to opportunity; helping children, youth and families; fostering understanding among community members;
• Economic Success – Revitalizing neighborhoods; helping people achieve self-sufficiency; enhancing the quality of life; and
• Environmental Excellence – Providing leadership in enhancing and protecting the environment.

Each year, DuPont contributes to numerous efforts that meet the needs of various groups and global communities where the company operates. Areas of support include:

• Educational programs;
• Culture & the arts;
• Environmental initiatives;
• Human & health service organizations; and
• Civic & community activities.

Contributions to organizations are made by a number of sources within DuPont. For example, DuPont businesses make contributions to programs and activities related to their goals, such as donating land to conservation organizations. The DuPont Office of Education awards grants geared toward primary, secondary and higher education institutions and programs.

DuPont does not support the following:

• U.S. non-profit organizations not eligible for support under federal IRS code;
• Disease-specific organizations; Endowments;
• Fraternal and veterans groups; Individuals;
• Political organizations and campaigns; Sectarian organizations whose programs are limited to members of one religious group; and Organizations that discriminate based on age, race, religion, color, gender, disability, national origin, ancestry, marital status, sexual orientation or veteran status.

The DuPont Contributions and Memberships Team is responsible for non education-related financial contributions. Most corporate grants involve programs in the DuPont headquarters community of Wilmington, Del., and other communities where the company has a major presence. The committee reviews requests in the spring and fall (usually May and September).

Requests must be submitted in writing and include a one- to two-page description of the organization and the program to be funded, as well as an explanation of how the program relates to the DuPont philosophy of community sustainability. Include an e-mail address for the organization, if possible.

Applicants will be notified in writing of grant review results. Organizations should not make plans based only on verbal conversations.
