DuPont believes that science and technology can and must be used to overcome some of the world's biggest challenges; and that Africa must play a role in addressing these issues.
By focusing on the following core areas, we can solve these issues together.
Increasing Food Production
Africa’s population is one of the fastest growing globally; and predicted to triple before the end of the century to 3.6 billion people. Feeding this population is a significant challenge as there are currently nearly one billion food insecure people in the world; of which approximately one quarter reside in Africa.
However, Africa’s favourable climatic conditions and natural agricultural resources are factors that the continent can turn into a competitive advantage.
Biotechnology is also a viable solution to increasing food production in Africa. In some cases, biotechnology has increased local farmers’ yields by 20 – 40% per hectare.
By 2030, the world will consume 60% more energy than today. And, while the demand for energy grows, the supply of fuels will not last.
The African continent is endowed with abundant natural resources that can be harvested for energy. In support of fuelling Africa’s growth, we are working with several major oil suppliers to introduce innovative solutions and the latest technologies.
In addition, we use our science to help transform the sun’s potential into clean, efficient energy, providing some of the world’s most innovative materials for photovoltaic applications and modules.
We also offer high-quality materials that contribute to the performance, reliability and long-lasting operation of wind turbines.
As the world develops, humanity places greater value on both life and the earth. DuPont is working with companies, governments, academics and scientists to develop a vast range of materials, products and consulting solutions that keep people and our environment safe.
We believe that life and our eco system are the most precious things on earth and that’s why we are working to protect them.
