Spruance employees actively support their community through volunteer work and funding. The site encourages volunteerism by recognizing our employees and by supporting various community organizations, especially those benefiting from our employees’ activities. Our community giving principles are based on our corporate values concerning Safety & Health, Environmental Stewardship, Ethical Conduct and Dignity & Respect, along with our organizational focus of Social Services, Education, Environment and Diversity. Our employees volunteer their time and talents with such diverse groups as robotics competitions, neighborhood rebuilding projects and high school mentoring programs. Some of our more significant activities are:
“Girls In Science” is an interactive, weekend-long program at the Science Museum of Virginia that encourages school students to pursue careers in science and engineering. Our engineers mentor and conduct workshops and activities for the students to help them better understand the technical aspects of such careers.
“First Virginia Robotics” offers our employees the opportunity to mentor students in engineering competitions both locally and on the state levels as they design and demonstrate robotic systems along gaining a better understanding of team dynamics and organizational skills.
“Rebuilding Together” is a nation-wide community program that involves company employees in repairing and enhancing homes and neighborhoods for elderly and disabled individuals. Everyone from scientists and engineers to electricians and mechanics work together to make the community a better place to live.
