Virginia Sites Receive Environmental Excellence Awards
The DuPont Spruance and Front Royal sites in Virginia recently received Governor's Environmental Excellence Awards (GEEA) for outstanding environmental stewardship. GEEA is part of the Virginia Environmental Excellence Program.
The Spruance site was recognized for the development and execution of a program that resulted in a 3.6 percent reduction in erergy consumption by the site for year 2006 vs. 2005. The reduced energy consumption is equivalent to carbon dioxide emission reductions of 18 million pounds.
The Front Royal site received its award for a project that resulted in a 60 percent reduction of volatile organic carbon air emissions. The reduction was achieved through collecting and destroying air emissions generated from vents and building exhausts.
