DuPont™ Weatherization Systems Add DuPont™ Tyvek® ThermaWrap™ To Commercial Product Portfolio
DuPont™ Tyvek® ThermaWrap™ is being showcased during the 2008 Architectural Institute of America National Convention and Expo (AIA) as the newest addition to the DuPont™ Weatherization Systems product portfolio for commercial construction. With the product's superior performance as a weather barrier coupled with its ability to help reduce radiant heat flow, DuPont™ Tyvek® ThermaWrap™ helps increase energy efficiency and can help contribute to LEED® points for buildings under five stories.
DuPont™ Tyvek® ThermaWrap™ offers a unique combination of a low emissivity (low-e) metallized surface, superior bulk water hold-out and high vapor permeability. This results in the reduction of potential air and water intrusion through the building envelope, allowing builders to help increase the effective R-value of the wall system.
"With the growing emphasis on sustainable and LEED® certified commercial construction, we are striving to provide a fully integrated product portfolio that helps meet the need of commercial builders," said Kerry Shea, DuPont Commercial market manager. "A study by the non-profit think tank New Buildings Institute, shows LEED® new buildings consume 25-30 percent less energy than similar non-LEED® new buildings. Using a low-e barrier such as DuPont™ Tyvek® ThermaWrap®, allows the wall system to effectively manage radiant heat flow which ultimately helps reduce the energy costs."
The light construction segment, which includes corporate office parks, education facilities, and multi-family housing, recognizes the need for energy efficiency by specifying products that make buildings more energy efficient. DuPont is helping to address this need is by providing builders with the option to incorporate the DuPont™ Weatherization Systems to help seal the building envelope. By preventing air infiltration and moisture penetration, builders can effectively help reduce the energy load required to heat and cool buildings. When installed properly, individual products in the DuPont™ Weatherization System are backed by the DuPont™ Tyvek® Commercial 10-Year Limited Warranty.
To further help seal the building and create a seamless barrier, DuPont™ Tyvek® Metallized Tape has been designed to secure the seams and maintain the reflectivity of the metallized surface.
