DuPont Spruance Plant has maintained its membership in the Virginia Environmental Excellence Program since 2001 and has achieved the highest level of participation (E4 level = Extraordinary Environmental Enterprise). The E4 level is for facilities with a fully-implemented Environmental Management System (verified by a third party) which drives continuous and sustainable environmental progress and community involvement. Participants at any level of the program must have a record of sustained compliance.
Programs such as the Virginia Environmental Excellence Program are viewed as the "gold standard" for facility-based environmental performance, which encourages facilities to go beyond mere compliance and achieve environmental excellence.
