"Safety is the most important thing we do" . . . that’s our motto.  Our employees are 70-times safer than the industry average, our safety standards are, in many instances, higher than those required by law.  The water we use in our processes is returned five-times cleaner to the James River.  Spruance is a registered wildlife habitat with many species living throughout the 400-acre site.  Our initiatives are focused on maintaining public trust by demonstrating  a keen awareness  and commitment to conducting business practices in a safe and environmentally conscious manner.   We believe that all injuries and occupational illnesses as well as safety and environmental incidents are preventable, and that our goal for all of them is "zero."  Spruance, along with the DuPont Company is on a journey of corporate environmentalism: an attitude and performance commitment that places environmental stewardship fully in line with public desires and expectations.  Spruance sponsors a Community Advisory Group to keep our neighbors informed of our operations and activities and to hear their concerns and comments on an ongoing basis.
