Sulfur Technologies from DuPont

Packages/ Transportation

Tank Trucks:

Sulfuric Acid
DuPont uses dedicated tank trailers for the delivery of sulfuric acid. Typically, these trailers meet Department of Transportation (DOT) 312 or 412 specifications and are constructed of stainless steel. Full loads are approximately 48000 lb (3150 gal).


Oleum/Sulfur Trioxide/Chlorosulfonic Acid
DuPont uses specialized tank trailers for the delivery of oleum, sulfur trioxide (SO3) or chlorosulfonic acid (CSA). The trailers are dedicated to the product, and are designed for it with the following characteristics:
• 3/8-inch thick stainless steel shell and heads
• Extra protection for the valves and fittings in dome area
• Internal unloading pump (DMS and SO3, optional for CSA and oleum)
• Closed-loop unloading
• Minimum 100-psig design pressure
• ASME code stamped and 100% x-ray welds
• No bottom flanges or outlets
• Bolted ASA manway covers


Rail Cars:

Sulfuric Acid
DuPont uses phenolic-lined, carbon-steel rail cars for transport of sulfuric acid. This minimizes the iron "pick-up" during transit. The rail cars are equipped with 165 psig rupture disks.


Oleum/Sulfur Trioxide/Chlorosulfonic Acid
DuPont uses specialized rail cars for the delivery of oleum/SO3/CSA. The rail cars are dedicated to the product, and are designed for it with the following characteristics:
• 0.625-0.844 inch thick shell and heads
• 300-500 psig design pressure
• Stainless steel (CSA)
• Carbon steel (oleum/SO3)
• Extra protection for valves and fittings in the dome area
• Full head shields to reduce the possibility of accidental tank puncture during derailment
• Full shelf couplers to minimizes risk of tank puncture
• Rupture disk/relief valve assemblies set at 225 psig


Barge

• Sulfuric acid and spent sulfuric acid
• 8 barges in fleet
• 2000-2200 ton capacity
• Internal pumps to unload


Isotainer Tanks (Chlorosulfonic Acid only)

• Minimum 3/8-inch thick stainless steel shell and heads
• Extra protection for valves and fittings in the dome area
• Closed-loop unloading capability
• Minimum 100-psig design pressure
• ASME code stamped and 100% x-ray welds


Closed-Loop Loading/Unloading Capability Portable Tanks, 220-Gallon

• Oleum/SO3/CSA
• Customer-dedicated reusable containers
• Minimum 3/8-inch thick stainless steel construction
