Care & Maintenance

Different surfaces require slightly different care, but there are some general guidelines that apply to all countertop surfaces.

  • Use a trivet or pad for setting down hot pots and pans.
  • Most counters will chip or dent if they are hit with a heavy object, so try not to bang heavy pots or equipment on them.
  • Do your chopping and dicing on a wooden or plastic chopping board, not the bare counter. Chopping boards prevent scratches and dents in the counter surface, which are unsightly and can harbor dangerous bacteria.

Corian®

After each use, simply wipe down a solid surface countertop with a sponge and a weak solution of dishwashing liquid in water. Scrub stubborn stains with scouring powder and a damp sponge. Smooth out blemishes, minor burns, and scratches with a piece of 200- to 300-grit sandpaper. Then, smooth the previously scarred surface with very fine 800-grit sandpaper.

Zodiaq®

Quartz surfacing such as Zodiaq® is a nearly indestructible material. It is resistant to stains caused by wine, fruit juices, liquid food coloring, tea, nail polish and remover, and felt-tip markers. It's non-porous nature makes it easy to clean, making it a food-safe choice. Though the quartz surface can briefly tolerate moderate temperatures for a brief time, it can be damaged by high heat and prolonged exposure to heat. Use a hot pad or trivet when placing a hot pan on it.

Remember, strong chemicals and solvents or excessive heat will damage any surface material.
