DuPont™ Corian® Honors
Four Inspiring Community Heroes

Surfacing Leader Announces Winners of its “Who Inspires You” Contest; Awards a Total of $50,000 in Prizes

CHICAGO, April 11 - 13, 2008 – DuPont™ Corian® solid surfaces today announced the winners of its Who Inspires You contest, honoring four community heroes whose actions greatly impacted, and in some cases, saved the lives of others. The four winning nominees, who were chosen from hundreds of entries, hail from Oregon, Mississippi, Ohio and Delaware. Their moving stories range from rescuing battered women and saving flood victims, to advocating for children’s rights and supporting parents with incarcerated family members. Each will receive a professionally installed DuPont™ Corian® countertop, an array of KitchenAid® appliances and an Excitations.com adventure experience. “These outstanding women and men truly embody the meaning of inspiration,” said Maureen McGeehan, marketing manager – DuPont Surfaces. “They not only imagine better lives for others, but they actually help make it happen. We are grateful to them, as well as to those who took the time to share their stories with us.”

The winners include:

Paula Lucas (Portland, Oregon):
A personal, heart wrenching experience inspired Lucas to found the non-profit organization, American Domestic Violence Crisis Line, which helps abused American women overseas make informed decisions about their lives and the lives of their children. Through Lucas’ persistent efforts for funding, she now provides hope and support to thousands of victims, including services and programs that help women establish violence-free, economically feasible lives when they return to the United States. “Paula doesn’t wear a cape, but to thousands of American women and children around the world, Paula is their super-hero,” said Debbie May, her sister, who made the nomination.

Robert Henry (Waveland, Mississippi):
According to many accounts, Robert Henry single-handedly helped rescue more than 20 neighbors, including several elderly survivors, from the rising waters of Hurricane Katrina. In addition, he formed a search team that led to the rescue of 20 additional people and their pets. “While Henry lost everything he owned, he continued to selflessly help others rebuild their lives,” said Ben Midgett, a Mississippi native who met Henry after the flood waters resided and felt he deserved to be nominated.

Pam Sark (Circleville, Ohio):
“Look into the eyes of one of the children Pam has helped, you will see renewed hope,” said Steve Sharp, who nominated and volunteers with Sark. As a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteer, Sark fights for the rights of abused and neglected children in the court system. Over the past 12 years, she has represented over 900 children in court sessions and has worked with an additional 500 to help place them in safe, loving environments. Sark, who has trained more than 50 CASA volunteers, was instrumental in the creation of new training tools and always put the best interests of the children that she represents first.

Danette Butler (Wilmington, Delaware):
After her own experiences with the criminal justice system, Butler created the group Parents With Incarcerated Children (P.W.I.C), which assists parents with the emotional trials experienced while dealing with a child’s incarceration. The group focuses on the helping parents who give everything they can to make their families’ lives better. Butler also mentors youth by teaching them how to make something of their lives when the odds are against them. “Danette refers to her past as pain that brought her purpose,” commented her sister, Tracey Butler. “She always put others first – never herself.” “We are so very pleased to recognize people who make a difference in their communities,” said McGeehan. “We believe the countertop and other kitchen upgrades will enhance their homes, making them better places to share their lives with others.”
