Tara Hill, Healthcare Designer

Tara R. Hill, ASID, is a registered interior designer, and an acknowledged expert in the use of color for healthcare environments. Before founding LittleFISH Think Tank, a consulting firm specializing in healthcare design, Ms. Hill was a senior designer at HOK International, then Director of Interiors at Stanley Beaman & Sears (SBS), and has over 15 years experience in the interior design industry.

Ms. Hill has researched the science and theory of color as a design tool to promote healing. She has applied evidence-based design extensively to meet today’s healthcare design challenges. Her work has included conceptual design as well as construction administration, project management and technical documentation.

In line with her evidence-based design approach, Ms. Hill has embraced the DuPont™ Corian® Healing Colors Collection with its nature-based design elements. The use of natural elements, and color palettes that reflect nature, can help create a healing atmosphere for patients and positive working environment for staff. She will be encouraging the use of evidence-based design in healthcare as she appears across the U.S. to discuss specific challenges in healthcare design.

The innovative designs for the interiors at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, based on design concepts developed by Ms. Hill as the Director of Interiors at SBS, won the 2007 Georgia Institute of Architects Design Citation; the 2007 American Society of Interior Designers Georgia Chapter Design of Excellence–Healthcare Gold Award; Honorable Mention - Interiors. And in 2008, the project received further recognition from Contract magazine – the Top Interiors Award in the Large Healthcare Category.

Most recently, the project was also recognized by the International Interior Design Association (IIDA), Georgia Chapter. It was named 2007 Best of the Best of Healthcare as well as receiving the 2007 Best of the Best of Show.

In 2007, another SBS project for which Ms. Hill led the design efforts, Piedmont Physicians Group at Atlantic Station, received the American Society of Interior Designers Georgia Chapter Design of Excellence –Healthcare Gold Award and Contract magazine First Place Healthcare Design Award.
