Application Description

Typically converted into sheet form for use in cell laminating lines, DuPont encapsulants include polymers such as ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) and ionomers. DuPont manufactures and markets these clean, plasticizer-free ethylene copolymers worldwide under brand names including Elvax® and Surlyn®.

Specialized DuPont resins continue to keep pace with the photovoltaic industry's needs, as it seeks to innovate and advance module technologies to meet cost and efficiency goals.

Outlook: More, Better, Faster

Polymer research and development at DuPont continues to focus on maximizing encapsulant transparency, assuring compatibility with next-generation additives, and increasing total system efficiency and life expectancy. The photovoltaic industry's scale-up to faster, more robust, more automated, higher-volume manufacturing methods will continue to be accompanied by an evolving range of highly specialized DuPont polymer technologies meeting these needs.

Putting it all together

Encapsulants from DuPont, combined with DuPont™ Solamet® conductive pastes and high-performance Tedlar® and Tefzel® front- and back-sheet films, give DuPont a multi-pronged interest and capability in photovoltaic research, design and innovation.
