Seal Strength of Salad Dressing is Strong with Surlyn®

Salad dressing pouch that will not leak during transit and handling
Application Description
Pizza Hut and other food companies in Thailand have come to depend on CPC-Aji (Thailand) Ltd., a joint venture of CPC International and Ajinomoto, for packets of soy sauce and salad dressings for their customers. That's because CPC-Aji has earned a reputation for freshness and dependability with those products -- as well as jams, instant rice pudding, chicken seasoning powders and broths under the brand names of "Best Foods" and "Knorr."
With a sterling reputation to protect, CPC-Aji asked converter Van Leer Packaging (Thailand) Ltd. to create a salad dressing pouch that would not leak during transit and handling. Engineers at Van Leer worked with the technical staff at DuPont Packaging to develop a laminated structure of DuPont Surlyn® packaging resin and low density polyethylene to replace the packets of linear low density polyethylene and another adhesive.
Test results showed improved seal strength and a virtual elimination of leakage problems - with increased clarity and no odor. Best of all, CPC-Aji also could achieve seal through contamination at lower temperatures and increased packaging line speeds.
When the salad dressing products were commercialized, CPC-Aji had a super success to celebrate - thanks to Van Leer Packaging and DuPont™ Surlyn®.
