How does GoodMark Foods, Inc. vacuum-pack its high-volume Slim Jim® spicy meat snacks so quickly with a tight seal through oils, fats and grease contaminants - yet ensure the package will survive rough handling at point-of-sale?

To meet production goals, the snack manufacturer uses four horizontal form/fill/seal machines, run at extremely high speeds - often with a wide range of sealing temperatures - for its broad Slim Jim® product line. GoodMark foods has successfully used film of DuPont Surlyn® as the sealant layer in the Slim Jim® package for over 20 years.Explains Doug Sopher of converter Pechiney Plastic Packaging, "with such demanding conditions, GoodMark Foods needs a sealant with excellent hot-tack strength."
