New DuPont Auto Lighting Technology Enhances Designs and Reduces Cost

Automotive headlamps, a key component of vehicle styling, can now be manufactured more cost effectively due to DuPont materials science know-how and application development capabilities.  The new approach yields up to 40 percent cost savings compared to traditional manufacturing methods for headlamp bezels, the extension surrounding automotive headlamps. New designs often put the headlamp very close to the bezel, resulting in exposures to temperatures above 150 degrees C.  Molding the parts from DuPont™ Crastin® PBT, which can be metallized without additional finishing, saves on the cost of the resin itself, and also saves by eliminating the need for painting operations.
