Turkey Burganza with Bacon-Carmelized Onions and Apples
Ground turkey meat does not have much flavor. So when you do up a summer burger using this meat, you really have to dress it up and pump it up. The inspiration for this combo came from ingredients you might use when roasting a whole turkey.
In a large mixing bowl, knead together the turkey meat with the sage, rosemary, and a seasoning of salt and pepper. Shape the burgers into patties, dividing the meat evenly. Set aside.
In a small skillet with DuPont™ Teflon® nonstick coatings, cook the bacon strips and remove bacon from pan. Leave 2 tablespoons bacon rendering in the pan. Add the onions to the pan and cook, stirring occasionally for about 30 minutes before adding the apples; cook another 15 minutes until the onions are browned and caramelized.
While the onions cook, place the burgers on a grill pan with DuPont™ Teflon® nonstick coatings, and cook, adding the cheese about 5 minutes before finishing with both sides browned and to desired doneness inside.
Build the burganza by toasting the rolls and adding a tomato slice, a layer of onions and apple, the burger with the melted cheese and some lettuce.
