Lubricated Paste Extrusion

Available in white powder, often called "fine powder," these fluoropolymer resins are uniquely capable of being sheared by lubricated paste extrusion into a coherent fibrous matrix with useful structural integrity. DuPont™ Teflon® PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) fine powders provide a practical method for producing long lengths of product from a resin that cannot be melt-extruded.

Processing

Processing Teflon® PTFE fine powders are processed by mixing them with a hydrocarbon liquid to facilitate extrusion as a paste. After extrusion, the liquid is removed from the extrudate with heat. The resulting low-density product can then be used or heated further to obtain a solid resin structure. The properties of the solid resin are similar to those of Teflon® PTFE granular molding powders.
