Altamira, Mexico

Located in the southern part of Tamaulipas, Mexico, the Altamira site has produced TiO2 since 1960. In 1974, new technology and a conversion to operating assets provided greater application diversity for coatings customers. In 1986, DuPont increased its role from commercial partner to owner of the site. The following year, the site completed a global quality project, expanding to serve markets in Latin America, South America, Europe, and Asia. The Plant now provides grades for the paper and laminates markets.

Altamira has retained ISO 9002 certification since 1992. With more than 350 employees and contractors working on high-performance teams, the site operates full-time while maintaining record uptime, low variable cost, and a large offering of product grades. Altamira's safety records include the following highlights:

  • 24 years without a lost workday case; 3 years without a major environmental incident
  • Sixth best performance in DuPont global safety statistics
  • 2 consecutive years of recognition for outstanding SHE programs by Mexican State OSHA department
  • Certification with the Wildlife Habitat Council
