Rigid, General Purpose PVC Applications

Ti-Pure® R-102
Selecting the optimal DuPont TiO2 product for rigid vinyl applications depends on the intended use of the product and the type of heat stabilizers used in the PVC compound to protect the resin during processing.

For PVC pipe and general purpose applications, TiO2 product selection is based largely on optical performance and pigment handling. Ti-Pure® R-102 is the preferred product with the following key characteristics:

  • High tint strength to efficiently provide opacity
  • Blue pigment undertone for a clean white appearance
  • Good bulk flow and processability
  • Approved by NSF for plastic pipe applications

Rigid, General Purpose, Lead Stabilized PVC Applications

Ti-Pure® R-103
Selecting the optimal DuPont TiO2 product for rigid vinyl applications depends on the intended use of the product and the type of heat stabilizers used in the PVC compound to protect the resin during processing. Some organic lead stabilized PVC compounds pigmented with untreated TiO2 products may experience lead graying on outdoor exposure. Ti-Pure®  R-103 is the preferred product for PVC pipe and general purpose applications using a lead stabilized compound. While it will not catalyze lead graying, Ti-Pure®  R-103 will surface chalk at a rate similar to other general purpose TiO2 products.

Rigid, Outdoor, Colored PVC Applications

Ti-Pure® R-960
Selecting the optimal DuPont TiO2 product for rigid vinyl applications depends on the intended use of the product and the type of heat stabilizers used in the PVC compound to protect the resin during processing. Ti-Pure®  R-960 is the preferred product for exterior tinted products such as building siding, regardless of the heat stabilizer system used. As with Ti-Pure®  R-105 (DuPont's preferred grade for outdoor, white, non-chalking applications), the dense silica surface treatment minimizes chalking which is perceived as color fade in tinted products. The lower opacity strength of Ti-Pure®  R-960 gives significant savings in color toner cost vs. a TiO2 product with higher strength.

DuPont™ Light Stabilizer 210
DuPont™ Light Stabilizer 210 is an ultrafine titanium dioxide and is preferred for UV degradation protection. Light Stabilizer 210 absorbs and scatters UV light reducing the amount of UV that can break down the polymer. It provides superior non migratory protection combined with low chemical interaction.

Rigid, Outdoor, White Chalking PVC Applications

Ti-Pure® R-102
Selecting the optimal DuPont TiO2 product for rigid vinyl applications depends on the intended use of the product and the type of heat stabilizers used in the PVC compound to protect the resin during processing. Ti-Pure®  R-102 is the preferred product for use in white profiles intended for exterior applications such as building siding and window profiles, where controlled chalking is desired, primarily in tin stabilized systems. Ti-Pure®  R-101 can also be used. Together, these products encompass the full optical range of blueness available for these applications.

Ti-Pure®  R-102

  • High tint strength to efficiently provide opacity
  • Blue pigment undertone for a clean white appearance
  • Good bulk flow and processability

If alternative tint properties are required,  Ti-Pure®   R-101 is preferred for an application requiring a more neutral undertone.

Rigid, Outdoor, White Chalking, Lead Stabilized PVC Applications

Ti-Pure® R-103
Selecting the optimal DuPont TiO2 product for rigid vinyl applications depends on the intended use of the product and the type of heat stabilizers used in the PVC compound to protect the resin during processing.

Some organic lead stabilized PVC compounds pigmented with untreated TiO2 products may experience lead graying on outdoor exposure. Ti-Pure®  R-103 is the preferred product for white profiles, made with lead stabilized compounds, that are intended for exterior applications such as building siding and window profiles, where controlled chalking is desired. While it will not catalyze lead graying, Ti-Pure® R-103 will surface chalk at a rate similar to other general purpose TiO2 products.

Rigid, Outdoor, White Non-Chalking, PVC Applications

Ti-Pure® R-105
Selecting the optimal DuPont TiO2 product for rigid vinyl applications depends on the intended use of the product and the type of heat stabilizers used in the PVC compound to protect the resin during processing.

Ti-Pure®  R-105 is the preferred product for high gloss exterior white products, such as window profiles, made using all types of heat stabilizers. The dense silica surface treatment of  Ti-Pure®   R-105 minimizes chalking, providing excellent gloss retention.

Ti-Pure®  R-105

  • Silica surface treatment for minimal chalking and high gloss retention
  • Compatible with all types of heat stabilizers
  • Strong tint strength
  • Good bulk flow and processability
