Most are familiar with the features and benefits of Tyvek® for graphics applications. The DuPont Graphics team went to GlobalShop to tell retailers and POP printers how it is putting its sustainable strategy to work for the wide-format market.
DuPont is committed to sustainable solutions. This includes reducing our own environmental footprint and that of our value chain partners. In 2009, DuPont introduced a trendsetting, lifecycle-based program for wide format graphics. The cradle-to-gate (Tyvek® manufacture to delivery) review of Tyvek® demonstrates reduced greenhouse gas emissions and energy use. DuPont has taken its lifecycle management a step further with programs in place to recycle and reuse Tyvek® wide-format, envelopes, bags and graphics products.
In short, DuPont Graphics has taken a stewardship role in making it easier for every player in the value chain to be responsible by providing a “cradle to cradle” solution. The DuPont™ LifeCycle Solutions for Tyvek® graphics and print media offers our customers not only recycling options but also “closes the loop” with tracking and reporting capabilities through its unique recycling program with Waste Management. Retailers can measure and track the impact of their recycling effort, providing a differentiating position for customers competing in an increasingly environmentally concerned marketplace.
Brian Hart, President of Hart Consulting Services and an industry consultant that specializes in assisting large format printers and graphics communications companies communicate more effectively for retailers and brands in-store, likes the DuPont LifeCycle Based Solutions program. “As an alternative to traditionally-used banner material such as PVC, Tyvek® Vivia presents a more environmentally-responsible solution with its turn-key recycling program. DuPont has demonstrated its commitment to developing products that support retailers and brand houses in meeting sustainability goals.”
Once recycled, the Tyvek® items will have a second life, repurposed for products such as playground equipment, landscaping materials, corrugated pipes and park benches, to name a few.
