DuPont™ Vertrel® specialty fluids are used extensively in carrier fluid/lubricant deposition applications especially in the hard disk drive and the medical industries. They are ideal replacements for PFCs. In the carrier fluid application DuPont™ Vertrel® is used to deposit an even and continuous layer of lubricant on a substrate.
The lubricant to be deposited is dissolved in DuPont™ Vertrel®. The object to be coated with the lubricant is immersed in the solution and is gradually removed using a very controlled process. Since DuPont™ Vertrel® is fast drying, it evaporates leaving behind an even coating of the lubricant on the material. The thickness of the coating can be controlled by the rate at which the object to be coated is removed from the DuPont™ Vertrel® and lubricant solution.
DuPont™ Vertrel® can be used to deposit fluorolubricants and some silicones, etc. DuPont™ Vertrel® XSi is most commonly used for silicone deposition while DuPont™ Vertrel® XF is the most commonly used product for other applications.
