DuPont™ Vertrel® has been used as a dielectric or as a testing fluid in some high-voltage applications. The dielectric properties and breakdown voltage make DuPont™ Vertrel® XF an ideal choice for high-voltage applications.
An example where DuPont™ Vertrel® is being used in high-voltage applications is in the electrical testing of insulation sleeves. DuPont™ Vertrel® XF is being used in commercial glove and sleeve testing equipment and has demonstrated superior performance.
The fluid is held in an AC voltage in excess of 40,000 volts during testing and has shown no hang-up of water globules on the rubber, thereby eliminating the need to time-delay the test or pre-coat sleeves with vegetable oils. Also there were no observed effects on the rubber sleeves even after repeated exposures.
