Resin Expansion Completed for DuPont™ Vespel® Parts
Staying ahead of increasing demand for DuPont™ Vespel® parts, DuPont Engineering Polymers has expanded its polyimide resin production, providing a 50 percent increase of the resin required for production of direct-formed Vespel® SP-1 and SP-21 polyimide parts.
Located at a multi-product DuPont site in Circleville, Ohio, the newly commissioned unit is dedicated to production of polyimide resin for direct-formed Vespel® S parts made at Pencader, Del., and other DuPont sites. The new operation is already turning out high-quality resin for Vespel® SP-21 parts and will soon begin processing material for Vespel® SP-1 parts, according to Mark Schmeckpeper, global product manager for Vespel®.
Direct-formed Vespel® parts combine very high temperature resistance with low wear and low friction. Typical applications include bushings, seal rings, thrust washers, bearings and multi-functional electrical insulating parts. Major end-use industries include automotive, aerospace and semiconductor manufacturing.
Vespel® SP-21 parts contain graphite for enhanced wear and friction properties. Vespel® SP-1 parts are unfilled, offering excellent cleanliness and insulating properties.
