Benefits Gained
Vespel® helps to eradicate fretting and improves durability and reliability of the seal rings in the gear box. The sealing properties of Vespel® also improve lubrication and reduce oil consumption. Because Vespel® is tough, very thin thrust washers can be used, saving space for longer gear teeth. High torque and power can then be easily reached.
Materials Selected and Why
Vespel® seal rings provide low wear and reliable sealing during life time of the transmission. Vespel® thrust washers can support PVs of up to 40 MPa • m/s and easily meet requirements for low wear and low friction replacing needle bearings and metal solutions. Vespel® is also resistant to chemical attack by transmission oil and has proven its performances all around the world in tractor gear boxes.
