Application Description

In ISO type 5211 ball valves used to regulate the flow of heat transfer fluids, precision-machined seats and stem seals of Vespel® polyimide help achieve bubble-tight closure in high-temperature processes. The valves come in 12 sizes from 1/4 in. to 6 in. (6 to 152 mm).

Benefits Gained

High service temperature. Thanks to the excellent creep resistance, compliance and stable mechanical properties of Vespel® at elevated temperatures, MCF rates the ball valves for service to 650°F (343°C) at 535 psi (37 bar).

Easy operation. Operating torque is about 40% lower than valves with metal seats, owing to the low coefficient of friction of Vespel®.

Long service life. After 15,000 test cycles, MCF’s three-piece ball valve showed no external leakage and also met the ANSI/FCI 70-2 specification for Class VI internal leakage. Test conditions were 650°F (343°C) and 150 psi (10.4 bar). Official third-party results confirm the resistance of the Vespel® parts to wear and to degradation by heat transfer fluid.

Materials Selected and Why

Vespel® withstands both high pressure and temperature cycles in heat transfer fluids.
